Robert “Chipper” Greene has been making his world famous Chipper’s Hot Salsa for more years than he cares to admit.

It all started in 1967 when young Chipper went to work for his dad and uncle, Bob and Fred Greene at their family restaurant, Pizzaville USA in Bakersfield, California. Chipper learned the food business from the ground up, graduating from dishwasher to waiter, then on to cook and finally Chief in Charge after purchasing the restaurant from his family in 1984. It was during his years as an employee, though, that Chipper developed a growing fondness for experimenting with food.

It began innocently enough – just mixing things up at home. Having a natural fondness for the rich tomato sauces pizza making required, he decided to try out some variations and ended up with one that was more salsa than sauce. A little more work, and Chipper ended up with his own version of traditional salsa using all natural ingredients and having a kick to satisfy his love for all things spicy. Chipper’s Hot Salsa was born.

Some time passed and Chipper, seeing a great opportunity, introduced the salsa to his customers at Pizzaville. It was an instant hit. Customers were using it on their pizza, as a dip, and eventually started requesting it to go for their home use. Before long, Chipper was producing it in large quantities and selling it by the pint.

Now Chipper’s Hot Salsa is available throughout Kern County, Tulare County, and even on the Central Coast at your favorite specialty stores and independent grocers and butchers.
